Stress Is Not the Problem. Your Relationship With It Is.
Most people who come to me are convinced that stress is something happening to them. The work, the traffic, the bills, the family. And life does throw a great deal at you.
But the stress response itself is yours. It was built over years, and it now runs automatically in the background, like software you no longer remember installing.
Software can be updated.
You learned this, and you can unlearn it
I was not born knowing how to help people with stress. I learned it, practised it, got it wrong a number of times, and kept going. The most important thing I found along the way is this: people are not broken. They are running old patterns that made sense once and stopped being useful.
Your brain was trying to protect you. It simply became a little too enthusiastic about the job.
When you understand that, something shifts. You stop fighting yourself. You stop asking why am I like this and start asking what could I do differently. That is where hypnosis becomes genuinely useful, because it works on the pattern rather than arguing with it.
The body knows before you do
Stress lives in the body first. The tight shoulders. The shallow breathing. The jaw you have been clenching since Tuesday.
Most people notice these things and immediately begin thinking about why they are stressed, which is a remarkably efficient way to produce more stress.
Try something different. Do not force it. Just notice.
When you bring your attention to where you feel it, rather than why, something useful happens. The nervous system begins to settle. Not because you solved anything, but because you stopped adding fuel to the fire.
This is not mysterious. It is how the nervous system works, and it is the mechanism a guided session is built around.
A skill, not a magic trick
Here is where most stress advice goes wrong. It treats stress as a problem you solve once and then finish with. Book a massage. Take a holiday. Download an app.
Freedom from stress is not a place you arrive at. It is something you practise, in the way you might practise an instrument. Clumsy at first. Then easier. Then eventually just how you move through the world.
Guided sessions are tools rather than miracles. I say that as someone who has used them for years and taught others to do the same. What makes them work is repetition, and a willingness to let your mind do something it already knows how to do.
You do not have to believe it will work. You only have to give it a fair attempt.
Where to begin
Freedom from Stress is a full guided session designed to work directly on the tension your body has learned to hold. Put your headphones on, find somewhere comfortable, and let it do its work.
If your sleep has suffered — and with stress it usually has — begin with Freedom from Insomnia instead. It is free and complete, and a rested nervous system responds far better to everything else.
If the stress has tipped into something sharper, Freedom from Anxiety works on the alarm response itself, and Freedom from Overwhelm helps when there is simply too much at once.
If part of you is not quite convinced yet, that is perfectly reasonable. That is where most people start.
Common questions about hypnosis for stress
How is this different from meditation or a breathing app?
Meditation trains your attention over time. Hypnosis works more directly with suggestion, using a relaxed and focused state to change the association between a trigger and your response. Many people use both. If you have tried meditation and found your mind too busy to settle, hypnosis often suits better, because you are being guided rather than left alone with your thoughts.
How long does a session take, and how often should I listen?
Sessions run around thirty-five minutes. Most people find that listening most days for two to three weeks changes considerably more than occasional use, because you are teaching your nervous system a new baseline rather than visiting one.
What if my mind wanders and I do not feel hypnotised?
That is normal and it does not mean it is not working. Most people expect something dramatic and find the experience quite ordinary. A wandering mind still hears the session. Very few people notice anything remarkable during a first listen, and many notice something a day or two later.
Is stress the same thing as anxiety?
They overlap, but they are not identical. Stress is usually a response to something identifiable and eases when the pressure does. Anxiety tends to persist without a clear cause and often anticipates rather than reacts. If what you are experiencing does not lift when circumstances improve, Freedom from Anxiety may be the better place to start.
When should I speak to someone rather than listen to a recording?
If stress is affecting your sleep, appetite, relationships or ability to work over a sustained period, or if you feel persistently low or hopeless, please speak to your doctor. A recording is a useful tool. It is not a substitute for support when you need it.
